Lucky me.
There’s an old adage that if you choose a job you love, you’ll never work day in your life.
That’s me. Since 1977 I’ve been a working designer and photographer. Among other things. It’s been wonderful, but along the way I’ve occasionally lost track of what made me love photography in the first place—the unencumbered pleasure of it all.
That’s what this site is about. In 2013, I decided to build a collection of personal work, concentrating on ordinary subjects close to home and the stuff I pass by on my daily commute. They document accidental still lifes, unplanned set-pieces, and random slices of beauty hidden in plain sight—focusing on what’s interesting about uninteresting things.
Happy viewing.
The boring part: Early in my work, in the late 70s and early 80s, I used medium and large format cameras with roll and sheet film. Things change. All the photos on the gallery pages were taken in the last 15 years using a number of Canon digital cameras—though I don’t recall which models I might have owned. The prints are made at our home studio on Epson hot press paper using Epson UltraChrome inks.
P.S. Special thanks to my beloved Florence for supporting this work—financially, emotionally and pitching in when it really counts.
